Resumen: This volume discusses issues in economic policy making and implementation arising from a seminar sponsored by the Economic Development Institute (EDI) of the World Bank and the Korea Development Institute (KDI). Instead of focusing on the substance of policy, the seminar was concerned with the underlying processes of policy making and policy implementation. The inspiration was to bring a group of policy decision makers, most of whom had occupied senior positions on both the technocratic and political sides of government, together with World Bank staff and academics to explore policy reform as a governmental process. Participants prepared case studies to illustrate how policy work has been carried out in each of six Asian countries : Bangladesh, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The basic subject of the seminar - how policy change has been and should be managed, was approached with reference to four main themes : 1) political dimensions of the policy process; 2) the role of information, professional knowledge, and analysis in policy making; 3) organization for decision making; and issues in implementation.
