Resumen: The report presents 26 selected demographic indicators of population and population trends from 1950 to 2000 for 187 individual countries and territories, for major geographical areas (e.g., Eastern Europe or Middle South Asia), for regions (E.G., Africa or Latin America), for the more and the less developed regions, and for the world as a whole. Figures for 1970-2000 are based on projections and are quoted in terms of 3 variants: low, medium, and high. Figures for the period 1950-1970 are drawn from various official and nonofficial sources and have been adjusted by the Population Division so they could be presented in a uniform manner. Only 1 variant is given for 1950-1970. The 26 indicators are: total population, total male population, total female population, percentage of population aged 0-4, 5-14, 15-64, over 65, und er 20, and 15-49, dependency ratios, child-woman ratios, sex ratios (per 100 females), median ages in years, proportion urban, population density per sq km, rates of growth in percent, natural increase rates, crude birthrates, crude death rates, gross reproduction rates, net reproduction rates, total fertility rates, general fertility rates, life expectancy for males, life expectancy for females, and life expectancy for the population as a whole. All rates and totals are given at 5-year intervals. The 1st 15 indicators (from total population to population density) generally refer to the midpoint of the years presented. The re maining indicators are 5-year averages. The report is the 2nd of a series of working papers on revised population projections as assessed in 1973. No data are given separately for countries or areas which had a population of 250,000 or less in mid-1970. -
